Sena Song is a painter based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Moods and incantations - in the form of written language - are the building blocks of their work. Through repetition, layering, and deletion, language and meaning become actions that hide and reorder text to create an image.
Informed by their time as a printmaker, their paintings are built up by the interchange of distinct transparent and opaque layers. Each painting is improvised and emphasizes intuitive impulse and action over aesthetics.
Their practice is stripped down, often using only the essentials – paint on raw canvas + other lightweight materials. This allows for max accessibility to a physical process and acts as a counter to the restrictions they face day to day as a disabled person and artist.
